Case Study - Citrix Remote office Connectivity Solution
Client: Providence-based Public Accounting Firm
Product: CITRIX
Segment: Business Services
Service: Integration Services
Solution: Remote Access to Client's Business Applications
The Challenge
The days of accountants and business consultants sitting at a desk, never being required to leave the office are over.
Our client's growth and continued success is based on their ability to provide a broad range of personalized accounting
and business consulting services in a timely and cost-effective manner. Their accountants and business consultants
go where they are needed, and in turn, it is critical that they have access to the applications and tools they need to
conduct business -anywhere, any time. The way in which business applications where housed on their network,
did not enable the remote access they required.
The Solution
In order for the client to increase their end-user uptime, it was necessary to expand their network to allow remote
access to their business operating applications. For the first phase, CompUtopia provided a temporary test server
running Microsoft NT2000 server with terminal services as a core operations system. The software application,
Citrix MetaFrame XPs, was installed in order to test their existing business applications and determine if they would run
successfully within a Citrix environment.
Upon completion of this first phase, an assessment of the LAN and Internet connectivity requirements were performed.
Connectivity tests involved the assessment of the requirements of a potential firewall, DSL bandwidth requirements for
Internet access, client notebook and desktop connectivity and user application access. Once the troubleshooting and
assessments were completed, the Citrix server could be installed.
The final phase was integration of the Citrix server with the existing Novell network. Upon completion,
user profiles were configured, all client applications were tested within a live environment and printer access tested for all users.
The application, Citrix ICA Client, was provided for all users notebooks and desktops.
The Result
The client's transition to shared application access directly impacted their ability to increase customer satisfaction
while reducing overhead costs of overtime and travel expenses.
Remote access for their employees was a total solution approach and was enabled by addressing the many needs
of the organization.
